Memorial Day Events in DFW 2017
There are many Memorial Day events in Dallas/Fort Worth this weekend to enjoy with family and friends. It’s important to remember to honor those who have served and who are currently serving to defend our freedom. Listed below are some wonderful activities that all ages will enjoy. If you are on active duty, or a veteran there are numerous complimentary events as well, just bring your photo ID.
Memorial Day Weekend at Dallas Arboretum

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden hosts Memorial Day Weekend Activities, complimentary with paid garden admission. To honor armed forces, the Arboretum offers free admission all 4 days for active duty members, veterans of the United States military and first responders with a valid photo ID.

• Saturday & Sunday, May 27-28, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Dueling Hearts Bluegrass Band: Enjoy the uplifting combination of acoustic, bluegrass and gospel music of the Dueling Hearts Band performing on the Martin Rutchik Concert Stage & Lawn.
• Monday, May 29, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Face Painters & Petting Zoo: Come enjoy face painting and a petting zoo in Pecan Grove.

Memorial Day Celebration and Touch-A-Truck

A Memorial Day Service at the Rowlett Community Center at 10 a.m. pays homage to fallen military. This special day continues with Touch-A-Truck, a fun and educational opportunity for children of all ages to touch, climb on and explore a variety of trucks and other vehicles including a fire truck, ambulance, 18 wheeler, school bus and more.
Scarborough Renaissance Festival

Renaissance themed festival set in a re-created 16th Century English village celebrates the mirth and merriment, sights, sounds and tastes of the days of King Henry VIII. Set on 35 acres, the “village” of Scarborough offers continuous entertainment for 8 weekends – April 8 through May 29.
Visitors will encounter colorful characters such as knights, villagers, fire jugglers, jousters, sword fighters and turtle racers. Eat a giant turkey leg, buy a longbow or some jewelry at the shops, watch a village artisan at work, stop in the Elkhorn Tavern or Dirty Duck Pub, or simply take in the sights.

Dallas Memorial March / Carry the Load
at Reverchon Park

The Memorial March and national relay Carry The Load is a two-day event that raises awareness and pays homage to our veterans and military families. The march begins at noon on Sunday and ends at 3 p.m. on Monday in observation of the National Moment of Remembrance. Participants can participate for 23 hours or for 20 minutes. During the march they will carry a load, which symbolizes carrying the fallen heroes we honor. Go online to sign up as an individual or as part of a team.
A Salute to America – Free Concert
at St. Andrew United Methodist Church

St. Andrew United Methodist Church invites the community to “A Salute to America” Memorial Day weekend free concert, in the church sanctuary.
The concert will feature the St. Andrew Chancel Choir and Imperial Brass, the Bells of St. Andrew, and the Salt and Light Youth Choir, performing a variety of patriotic and Americana music. Boy Scout Troop 1999 will provide the presentation of the flags, and a special invitation is extended to all veterans as each branch of the military will be recognized during the program. Children will be invited to come forward during one of the concert pieces, waving American flags that will be given to them.
