Sláinte! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Fort Worth has some great activities going on this weekend to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! Throw on your green so you don’t get pinched and head down to the Stockyards on Saturday. The Stockyards will be hosting Cowtown Goes Green, which is a family-friendly event with armadillo races, face painting, a petting zoo and live music. The cattle drive comes through at 4 p.m., followed by a Western-Irish-themed parade. The fun starts at noon and is free to attend.
If you’re over near Mansfield, there’s a quirky St. Patrick’s Day tradition called the Pickle Parade and Palooza. This daylong event includes 10K and 5K races, pickle contests and, of course, a parade featuring people dressed as pickles and even Pickle Queens. To cap off the fun, Texas band Asleep at the Wheel performs at 6 p.m. This event, too, is free to attend.

Where To Go With Children in Tow
Many families may be starting or ending spring break this weekend; luckily there are plenty of events that welcome kids. First is the Food Truck Frenzy at Klyde Warren Park on Saturday. More than 20 food trucks will come to the deck park near downtown Dallas, where there will also be over-sized lawn games, kids’ crafts, and live music. That event is free and runs from all day, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
If you’re north of Dallas, there’s a cool free event happening Saturday at the Cowboys practice facility known as The Star. The venue will be hosting a simulcast of the Dallas Opera’s production of “Madame Butterfly” on an outdoor screen that’s about 2,300-square feet. That kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and if you’re worried whether of not your kids will sit still, know there’s also a fun zone with activities.
The Music Scene
This is a great weekend for music as well!
Genre-defying singer Bob Schneider will be playing a free concert as part of the Rock and Roll Half Marathon on Sunday. The race actually encompasses three days with a health and fitness expo, plus a 5K on Saturday. But Sunday is the main event and the best part is you don’t have to run 13 miles to enjoy the concert. Just show up to Reunion Tower Lawn at 11 a.m.
Other than that, Pat Benetar and Neil Giraldowill be playing an acoustic set at the Majestic Theatre on Sunday, and rapper Big Sean stops through South Side Ballroom on Saturday. Both venues are in Dallas and tickets are still available.
