Tax Free Weekend is Coming to Texas August 5-7, 2016
It’s that time of year again…Texas’s Annual Tax Free Weekend is from August 5-7, 2016. This is a great opportunity to take advantage of becuse you don’t have to pay sales tax on most clothes, shoes, school supplies and other school items that each cost less than $100. This saves Texans about $8 on every $100 spent.
This Texas tradition began in 1999, and has a been a huge hit ever since then. Many stores and malls offer additional savings during tax free weekends so consumers can get the most bang for their buck. A great resource to use for additional coupons and savings is RetailMeNot, an app available on any smart phone or computer.
A few of the items that shoppers can save sales tax on August 5-7th include:
- Shoes and clothes that cost less that $100 per item.
- Backpacks, including the type with wheels as long as they can be worn on the back as a traditional backpack that cost less than $100
- School supplies, as long as each item is priced under $100, for students in elementary or secondary schools.
